This SIAC 2006 was held through a long period for preparation since picture dealers over Gangnam area organized an executive committee(chairman; Suk Yeong Lee, representative of Gallery Yeh) in the last winter in order to activate culture in the region where exhibition planning is intended and extend the base of our art market. In this event planned with a variety of culture and arts and new programs, galleries in Gangnam area conduct the exhibition for the first time within the country. In form of art fair(art sample market), total 26 relevant companies in the fields of pure art, industrial arts, design, etc. participate in SIAC 2006, and it is planned in diversified cultural senses for extension of the base of art culture and as part of actual culture project for citizens. This exhibition to be held in Convention Hall, Coex, Samsung-dong, one of the place to which visitors can make an easiest approach is composed of four sub-exhibitions: first_gallery exhibition, second_special exhibition ‘1 million won per work, 1,000 pieces of work’, third_industrial arts, design, traditional furniture and living artworks exhibition, fourth_special exhibition of BMW and art of 'Soft Landing'. The exhibition ‘1 million won per work, 1,000 pieces of work’ where 1,000 pieces of work are installed and displayed on the wall of a common booth by invitation of 250 artists as well as the BMW special exhibition are most worthy of notice in this exhibition. This exhibition will be a meaningful opportunity of purchasing a superior art work at a satisfactory exhibition price of 1 million won, and the works by 7 domestic artists with the 7 parts of the car body of BMW are displayed with the support of BMW Korea. 7 artists participated in the work in various genres including oil painting, media art, picture, iron piece, traditional wooden sculpture, and work based on traditional industrial arts(mother-of-pearl, Korean paper). Also, as quality works are displayed by each gallery and the relevant companies in diverse manners in the self-planned booth through review of the works by the executive committee, this exhibition will give viewers an opportunity to appreciate and possess contemporary modern art works and be a meaningful place to take a general view of domestic and foreign art. In addition, a seminar under the theme ‘Distribution of Korean modern art works’ will be held. This SIAC 2006(subtitle: Open Art Fair) will play a leading role in art market of the country as well as Gangnam area through sound distribution in art market beyond activation of local culture.
