Kim Woo Young (b. 1960~)

Photographer Kim Woo Young captures, through his unique angle, spaces that have changed with the passage of time. The art he pursues focuses on the traces of time and the subsequent artificial changes that they bring to a space. It is a process of identifying the inherent history and beauty in this passage. He perseveres for a long time before he finally clicks the shutter - he waits for the right moment when the traces of time accumulate to compose a narrative. His photography is carved with traces of life that existed in the fast-changing urban landscape, in which certainty and uncertainty, the familiar and the unfamiliar, and the visible and the invisible coexist.

“When people talk about photography, they say that it is the art of light and that it captures transience.
To me, photography means something different. Photography is time spent in observing.
I try to capture moments only after fully understanding the beauty of that space.
To me, photography is not just the art of transience; it is an art that holds and records the meaning of time.”
