I’ve been working on expressing the Korean sentiment. The form resembles the simplicity of minimal art, but the content as traditional and Korean as possible. So my works have endeavored to simplistically express the Korean color and forms in modern aesthetics, and these originate from the colors of the traditional Korean clothing, the elegance of traditional architecture, and the Confucianist spirit which are all categorized as high culture in Korea. I have been studying the Zen meditation – one of the Buddhist meditations – and trying to get inspired of something new out of it.

 The colors or forms are granted utmost liberty when they are to express the changes created by new time, space and consciousness.

 I merely observe and keep my eye on the changes, contemplate and then proceed. This requires restless humility and diligent endeavor. I desire to create works that show sincere effort, to convey the depths of spirit, emotion and craftsmanship in a simple repetition of dotting. I would like to show how it is not a mere repetition but a continuity of each dots representing a new world. One dot after another dot becomes an infinite set of energy. It is a product of totality and beauty. I endeavor to depict the sublimity of our nature and the perpetuity of deep humanitarian knowledge in the simplest way possible.

 나는 그동안 한국적 정서를 표현하는 작업을 하여 왔다. 형식은 미니멀 아트 같은 단순함이지만 내용은 전통 한국미를 보이고자 하였다. 한국적 색감과 형태 느낌을 현대적 미감으로 단순하게 표현하는 것이 그것이다. 이것들은 전통 한복의 색감과 전통건축의 단아함, 유교적 선비정신 같은 고급문화에 그 뿌리를 두고 있다. 최근에는 불교의 수행법중의 하나인 참선공부에도 많은 시간을 보내며 새로운 아이디어 만들기에 몰두하였다.

시간과 공간, 의식이 변하면서 바뀌어 지는 표현은 어떤 형태나 색으로 나타나도 무방하다.

다만 그 변화를 계속 주시하고 깊이 통찰하며 나아갈 따름이다. 여기에는 부단한 저제와 성실한 노력이 반드시 필요하리라. 나는 정직한 노력이 보이는 작업을 보여주고 싶다. 단순한 점찍기의 반복에서 손맛과 감정과 정신의 깊이를 담아내고자 한다. 단순반복이 아닌 개개의 점마다 하나의 새로운 세계가 담긴 흔적이다. 한 점이 모여 백 개, 천개, 만개의 엄청난 점의 에너지집합을 이룬다. 총체적 아름다움의 소산이다. 나는 이 땅의 아름다운 자연과 유구한 인문학적 깊이를 단순하게 표현하고 싶다.
